Payman Haghani’s 316 is a truly unconventional piece of cinema. It’s a movie that both has actors and doesn’t. Instead of faces, everything unfolds from the perspective of shoes and feet. As the director himself puts it, “Shoes are simply a pretext for telling a story.”
Have you ever thought about how many shoes you’ve owned since you were born? These words are spoken by a woman narrating the story of her life alongside the characters in it. She is an ordinary woman with 315 pairs of shoes, each carrying its own unique memory. And yet, there is the 316th pair, which Payman Haghani says “carries a deep sense of nostalgia, represents the protagonist’s entire life, and is the name of the film!”
